CSRR undertook a review of prior research by the Department of Sport and Recreation WA into the topic of ‘More Than Winning’: broader ways in which sport and physical activity can benefit individuals and society beyond personal fitness and sporting success.
In particular the research demonstrated that sport and recreation engagement can lead to healthier, stronger, safer communities. DSR’s research and publication presented this information to promote wider understandings of the benefits of sport and recreation and advocate for greater access to physical activity opportunities. CSRR helped to refine and further guide this research position, leading to a more detailed Sport Advocacy project in which specific benefits for community connectedness, crime and safety, mental health, and childhood learning were investigated and presented.
