Nyoongar Services Audit Mapping Project

Research Report

Nyoongar Services Mapping

Professor Marian Tye, Sandra Harben

The report outlines findings from a study aimed at developing a database to map and record all organisations that provide direct specific services to the Nyoongar Aboriginal community of and in the south west of Western Australia. The work undertaken for this research identified, gathered data on, and categorised 217 organisations providing services to the Nyoongar people of the south west of Western Australia, sorted by name of the organisation, language group, type of organisation (e.g., government, small business), and nature of service. One of the main implications for many of the organisations identified through this search is financial constraints – many appear to be small and/or family oriented and rely solely on government grants for the delivery of services. The report concludes that building capacity of these small enterprises could be invaluable, particularly in areas of Nyoongar Boodjar where few organisations have been identified to date.
