This study was a formative scoping project focusing on Aboriginal sport and recreation participation in the Mid West region of Western Australia. The study delivered a preliminary investigation of the current status of participation in the Mid West, and an indicative picture of the actual and perceived social value of such participation from an Aboriginal perspective. It also provided an assessment of the level of previous research in this area and the extent of Aboriginal participation in the research. The study was to further identify and refine a case for the value of developing and executing a more substantive research project, looking into the social and cultural value of participation in sport and recreation activity, from an Aboriginal Perspective, and its ability to act as an agent of change.
